LOCATIONS:

DESCRIPTION:
Multiple fires in the city of Erie kept Erie, Millcreek, Harborcreek & other local fire departments busy Sunday afternoon. Calls started to come in after 1pm for a brush fire at 18th & Camphausen. Upon Engine 13's arrvial a full assignment was requested due to the quickly spreading fire and nearby buildings. Several additional calls came in reporting the fire spreading to buildings at Buffalo Rd & Downing Ave. Belle Valley was then requested to assist at that fire with Engine 362 and Ladder 369X responding to assist the remaining Erie companies. Deputy Chief 370 responded to the scene with Utility 367.

A few minutes later the report of another brush fire sent Engine 363 to 21st & Parade St in Erie. No fire was found at that location, Engine 363 was then sent to the fire at 18th & Camphausen Ave.

The report of the structure fire at Buffalo Rd & Downing Ave was unfounded and those apparatus went put to work at the 18th & Camphausen fire. While on scene the BVFD crews assisted the Erie crews in trying to suppress the fire and keep the fire from spreading to any nearby structures. The fire was already burning several acres of wooded area, a nearby junk yard and railroad box cars. Several large hose lines were in use as well as aerial master streams.

As this major fire was in progress several other reports of fires were coming in. Apparatus from several other fire departments and off duty Erie crews repsonded to these fires.A brush fire on Ross Street was spreading to nearby houses while a brush fire on Perry Street spread to a nearby camper. There were also a report of bushes on fire at 24th & State Street next to a building which required a structure fire response.

Station 36 units remained at 18th & Camphausen for several hours. After Engine 362 cleared they were sent to Fire Station 13 to cover for calls. The last BVFD unit returned to quarters around 7pm.

Thanks to Kuhl Hose for covering Station 36 with an engine during this event.
