TYPE:
Structure Fire - Mutual Aid to Brookside

DATE:
Monday March 1st

LOCATION:
Penn State University - Behrend Campus / Dobbins Dining Hall

DESCRIPTION:
Firefighters from multiple departments battled flames that destroyed the dining hall at Penn State Behrend Monday night into Tuesday morning. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the Gazebo at Dobbins Dining Hall as responders arrived.

Nearly 300 student residents were evacuated from Porcupine and Lawrence residence halls, due to the heavy smoke coming from the fire. They were allowed back into the buildings a couple hours later.

The fire destroyed the dining hall while the kitchen sustained heavy damaged. Ironically the building was being remodeled at the time of the fire. The remodeling made some of the firefighting efforts a little tougher as a large fence was put in place around the building. One firefighter was injured, not seriously.

Engine 362's crew assisted in suppression efforts while Rescue 368 was designated as a RIT team.

Brookside offiicals and the PSP fire marshal have determined the fires cause to be an electrial problem.
