Ice Storm Keeps BVFD Busy

A late afternoon ice storm kept crews from BVFD busy on Interstate 90 Tuesday. Three seperate traffic accidents with-in an hour were caused by the icy conditions.

TYPE: Vehicle Accident - 1 Vehicle Rollover

DATE / TIME: March 4 @ 16:58

LOCATION: I-90 Eastbound West of Route 8

DESCRIPTION: A pick up truck rolled onto its side after losing control on icy I-90. The occupant was self extricated and did not complain of any injuries. PA State Police were on location.

TYPE: Vehicle Accident - Car Over Guardrail - Mutual Aid Assist Brookside

DATE / TIME: March 4 @ 17:13

LOCATION: I-90 just east of Moorehouse Rd

DESCRIPTION: Just after leaving the earlier accident Brookside was dispatched for an accident along I-90 at mile marker 31. 360 responded due to its close location. Upon arrival found a single vehicle accident with minor damage that went over a guardrail. The occupant of this accident also had no injuries.

TYPE: Multi Vehcile Accident

DATE / TIME: March 4 @ 17:51

LOCATION: I-90 Above Route 8

DESCRIPTION: A six vehicle accident that involved 4 tractor trailers, an SUV and a pick up truck closed the westbound lane of I-90. One of the semi's received heavy damage while all other vehicles sustained minor to moderate damage. Only one person complained of an injury and he refused transport to a hospital. Rescue 38 controlled leaking fluids and checked for any hazardous material involved - which none were found. Kuhl Hose was requested to stand by with an engine and ambulance but were not needed. The interstate was closed for a couple of hours to get the vehicles removed.
