BVFD To Join Millcreek SCUBA Team
BVFD members will soon be taking the plunge and joining the Millcreek SCUBA Team. At the August business meeting it was discussed and approved for members to join the SCUBA Team. The team currently consists of divers from West Lake and West Ridge Fire Departments.
BVFD currently has three trained divers. There are also another ten members who are going to take the required training to join the team next spring or summer.
We will also be training our members on water rescue and land based diver assistance.
Several members felt that we would be able to suppliment the dive team and also be able to respond quicker to any possible dive response in east Millcreek. Though we may not have any large bodies of water in our district there are ponds, water retention basins and a few creeks that have proven that they can flood (remember the flood of 2009?).
In late July our divers assisted the Millcreek Dive Team at Presque Isle State Park for a missing swimmer.
With this new endevor, we add another rescue specialty that we will provide to the residents and visitors of Millcreek Twonship and surrounding communities.
