Lawrence Park Deputy Chief Killed in Line of Duty

The Belle Valley FD would like to send our sincerest condolences to the family of Deputy Chief Mike Crotty and to the members of the Lawrence Park FD and the City of Erie FD.

Deputy Chief Mike Crotty of the Lawrence Park Fire Department was tragically killed in the Line of Duty Tuesday April 8th at a working industrial building fire at Port Erie Plastics in Harborcreek Township. Deputy Chief Crotty was in commad of the fire at the time, when for a yet undetermined reason, the Lawrence Park FD aerial ladder had a catastrophic failure when a portion of the waterway and master stream separated from the main ladder. The waterway and master stream appliance fell, striking the Deputy Chief.
Crews immediately began treating him. LifeStar helicopter was called to the scene. Crotty was taken to Hamot Trauma Center via ambulance with the LifeStar crew.

Mike Crotty was recently hired as a Career Firefighter for the City of Erie, F.D. working at Engine #6.

At this time funeral arrangments have not been finalized. When they do we will post them.
