Old Engine 34

Engine 34 - 1955 Ford
With the steady increase in population and call responses, the fire department saw a need to enlarge the firefighting fleet. So in 1962 BVFD purchased a new rig. Well it wasn't actually new it was a 1955 Ford/Howe pumper. But it was new to BVFD.
The truck was purchased from a small fire department in Cooperstown, PA.
The “new” pumper was given the designation of Engine 34. The engine had a 500 gpm pump and 850 gallon water tank. It would actually be used more as a tanker than an engine in its latter days. Engine/Tanker 34 would see action at BVFD for over 15 years. It remained a primary firefighting piece until the late 1970’s when it was replaced by a brand new Saulisbury tanker in 1980.
